A Digital Signature for a Digital Future

Wyoming Supports STEM and Tech Apprenticeships

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of National Apprenticeship Week

On November 21, 2024, organizations, businesses, and community members across Wyoming came together virtually to support STEM & Tech education and Registered Apprenticeships during the STEM & Tech Apprenticeship Proclamation Signing. Hosted by CyberWyoming and the Science Zone as part of National Apprenticeship Week, this event emphasized the importance of building pathways into technical careers while celebrating the progress already made in the state.

Focusing on the Future of Wyoming’s Workforce

The event highlighted the essential role of apprenticeships in addressing workforce needs in Wyoming. Discussions ranged from the importance of starting STEM education early to the value of registered apprenticeships in creating well-paying careers. Presenters Steven Schnell of the Science Zone and Laura Baker of CyberWyoming underscored how these programs meet the demands of industries like cybersecurity, infrastructure, and supply chain management while offering opportunities to underserved populations across the state.

At the center of the event was the signing of the STEM Education is a Pipeline to STEM Apprenticeships proclamation. This declaration reflects Wyoming’s commitment to preparing an inclusive, highly skilled workforce through apprenticeship programs that open doors to rewarding technical careers.

Interactive and Memorable

The event wasn’t just about signing a proclamation—it included an interactive Best and Worst Digital Signature Contest. Kyle G’s winning signature earned him recognition, though he graciously donated his prize back to the Science Zone. Congratulations to Shane B, whose second-best signature earned him a book from the Science Zone!

Meanwhile, Robert F and Faith L tied for the worst signature, each taking home custom whiskey glasses etched by a Wyoming artist from the Works of Wyoming store in Laramie and donated by CyberWyoming.

The event wrapped up with the DigeTekS drone drawing, where Amanda B emerged as the lucky winner. DigeTekS, a strong supporter of Wyoming’s Cybersecurity Support Technician Registered Apprenticeship program, continues to play a critical role in workforce development across the state.

Building Momentum for Apprenticeships

The event was a reminder of what can be achieved when communities and organizations come together to strengthen education and workforce opportunities. From CyberWyoming, the Science Zone, and DigeTekS to the Department of Labor, the Casper Area Chamber of Commerce, DWS Apprenticeship, and individual apprentices, the collective effort reflects Wyoming’s focus on preparing for the future.

Thank you to all who attended and participated in making this event a success. As we look ahead, events like this reinforce the value of apprenticeships in Wyoming and their role in creating a more skilled and resilient workforce.
