An example of a local text scam

A car-wrap scam via text is surfacing again in Wyoming. Scammers try to gain legitimacy by using brand names you recognize and pulling on your heart strings regarding the economic downturn and COVID.

Note that John from “Redbull” is actually calling from an Auto Tech Detail number. Also note that the link to the application form is not actually a Redbull website.

The Federal Trade Commission has this scam well documented. Here’s the link to the FTC’s website blog about this particular scam. https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2016/08/how-spot-car-wrap-scam?page=4
