Celebrate Buffalo Bill’s Birthday With Cybersecurity?

As communities across Park County celebrate the birthday of legendary frontiersman Buffalo Bill Cody on February 26, one CyberWyoming member is honoring more than history. Arsenal Dev of Cody, WY carries forward the enduring Western values of resilience, self-reliance, and preparedness into the digital age.

“Technology is complicated. Cybersecurity is even more complicated. Our job is to make both simple and safe for the people who have actual work to do. Buffalo Bill’s success came from planning, logistics, and paying attention to details most people overlooked. Cybersecurity is no different,” said Jennifer Anderson, VP of Arsenal Dev.

Buffalo Bill helped define the spirit of the American West by adapting to change, protecting what mattered, and embracing innovation while staying grounded in community. Today, those same principles apply to how Wyoming businesses protect themselves online.

In that spirit, Arsenal Dev and CyberWyoming, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to strengthening cybersecurity readiness for Wyoming businesses and communities, are celebrating Buffalo Bill’s birthday by highlighting how modern “digital frontier” skills are becoming essential for small businesses across the region.

“Just as Buffalo Bill navigated new frontiers, many digital tools are new to businesses.  For instance, AI tools have been compared to the Wild West when it comes to data privacy,” said Laura Baker, Executive Director of CyberWyoming. “It isn’t a far reach from Wyoming’s historical values to protect your livelihood, your customers, and your reputation.”

CyberWyoming recently welcomed Arsenal Dev of Cody as the newest member of its growing cybersecurity network. Arsenal Dev’s involvement reflects the strength of Wyoming’s local tech community and its commitment to community safety.

CyberWyoming’s Made Safe™ Small Business Cyber Training Program and Competition is now nationwide taking advantage of the CyberUSA affiliation and logo.  However, with support of companies like Arsenal Dev, CyberWyoming offers Wyoming companies full scholarships for the 7-month, one-on-one program to reduce digital and cyber company risks.

“Wyoming businesses may be small, but they’re mighty,” said Baker. “With the right tools and community support, they can be just as prepared as any large organization.”

As residents in Powell, Cody, and across Park County honor Buffalo Bill Cody’s legacy this February 26, Arsenal Dev and CyberWyoming encourage business owners to reflect on what it means to protect their operations in today’s world and to take pride in continuing Wyoming’s long tradition of strength, adaptability, and frontier leadership.
