WyoGives 2024

Supporting Wyoming’s Youth Through Education and Innovation

Wyoming’s Day of Giving, WyoGives, is back for its fifth year promising a day of unity, philanthropy, and celebration of important initiatives ranging from food insecurity to cybersecurity education.

This year, the CyberWyoming Alliance is focusing on two key educational initiatives: shipping costs for LEGO cybersecurity attack and defense models and pizza for the MAGIC Cybersecurity Puzzle Challenge.

Shipping Costs for LEGO Models:

These LEGO models are not just about building; they teach engineering, circuitry, networking, and Python programming through hands-on activities. Wyoming teachers borrow these models for a full semester, using them to inspire the next generation of tech-savvy leaders. Shipping each kit costs between $65 and $90, and with increasing demand, the estimated annual average shipping cost is $2,400.

Pizza Costs for the MAGIC Cybersecurity Puzzle Challenge:

Hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Gigabit Innovation Collaboratory (MAGIC), these virtual cybersecurity challenges engage Wyoming middle school, high school, and college students. They develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while introducing students to cybersecurity. Wyoming teams have ranked in the top 10 nationwide, occasionally breaking into the top 5. To support participating teams on this Saturday event, the CyberWyoming Alliance provides pizza for lunch during the challenge to keep up energy and concentration levels and address potential food insecurity issues since the school cafeteria is closed on weekends. The estimated annual pizza cost is $1,000 for 12 teams, with potential for more as the number of participating teams grows.

With the CyberWyoming Alliance, like many fundraisers on WyoGives day, donations are matched by companies and organizations interested in supporting the cause.  In 2024, the CyberWyoming Alliance educational donations will be boosted by three different organizations: Red Queen Dynamics, NEW BOCES, and the Hughes Charitable Foundation.  Thus, donating early can potentially triple the impact.

Red Queen Dynamics is matching LEGO Attack and Defense Model Shipping donations up to $450.

Northeast Wyoming (NEW) BOCES is matching Pizza and LEGO Attack and Defense Model Shipping donations up to $750.

Finally, the Hughes Charitable Foundation Incentive Pool will boost every online donation made to the CyberWyoming Alliance, and other participating WyoGives organizations, via WyoGives.org on July 10th with a generous $1,000,000 pool.

CyberWyoming Alliance also needs equipment to maintain the LEGO models. Since much of the equipment is donated, when a laptop breaks, teachers are instructed to take it apart and create another lesson.  Thus, interested donors should also consider donating an old, working Windows laptop capable of running Windows PowerShell or a home Wi-Fi router or switch no longer in use.
