If you loathe completing CAPTCHA challenges as much as we do, you’ll welcome Cloudflare’s introduction of the Turnstile CAPTCHA. Their announcement describes Turnstile as a user friendly, privacy preserving alternative to Google’s 800 lb. reCAPTCHA gorilla. Turnstile automatically chooses from a rotating suite of non-intrusive browser challenges based on telemetry and client behavior exhibited during a session. It takes advantage of the same technology as Cloudflare’s Managed Challenge system, which they say reduced their use of CAPTCHA by 91%. Speculation is that an unspoken motivation for Turnstile is that Firefox’s cookie isolation strategy has its users annoyed with Google’s reCAPTCHA, which constantly challenges them.
