Cyber Cheyenne 2025 Welcomes Wyoming Cybersecurity Competition Winners To The Stage

Cyber Cheyenne 2025 will spotlight winners of the Wyoming Cybersecurity Competition on Friday, Oct. 3, at Laramie County Community College, where small businesses recognized for advancing cybersecurity practices will take center stage. The event is hosted by the Wyoming and Northern Colorado chapters of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA).

The Wyoming Cybersecurity Competition for Small Businesses, launched in 2018, is a unique program designed to help small businesses learn to manage cybersecurity risks through one-on-one, on-the-job training over seven months. The competition emphasizes both practical skill-building and a culture of cyber awareness, allowing participants to gain real-world experience while improving the security posture of their organizations all from the convenience of virtual work. Winners of the competition earn the opportunity to speak at Cyber Cheyenne, sharing their experiences and insights with conference attendees.

“Cybersecurity is serious work, but this competition proves it can also be fun,” said Laura Baker, CyberWyoming Executive Director. “By combining training with friendly competition, participants not only strengthen their businesses’ cybersecurity defenses but also gain confidence and peace of mind.”

Cyber Cheyenne 2025 provides a collaborative platform for technology professionals, business owners, policymakers, and community members to explore pressing cybersecurity issues. This year’s conference features sessions on defending against AI-driven threats, navigating deepfake technology, strengthening the human side of cyber defense, and closing talent gaps through academic-industry partnerships. In addition, attendees gain practical guidance on compliance, threat detection, and communication strategies.

A highlight of the day will be the presentation by the 2025 Wyoming Cybersecurity Competition winners, who will share lessons learned and practical strategies that their small business have implemented to improve cybersecurity.

“Hearing directly from Wyoming’s own businesses about how they strengthened their cybersecurity is both inspiring and educational,” said Baker.

Cyber Cheyenne 2025 also features a keynote by Dr. Kelley Misata, Founder of Sightline Security and President of OISF, who will discuss securing nonprofits in an AI-driven world. Early conference arrivals may register to tour the NCAR Supercomputing Center, offering a glimpse into high-performance computing infrastructure and cyber research.
