EU Nations Ban Google Analytics

Four nations (Austria, Denmark, France, and Italy) have ruled that use of Google Analytics is illegal under the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This is likely to have broad impacts due to the large number of sites that use Google Analytics. A key objection is exfiltration of user data from the EU without consent. Mitigations have been proposed, but it’s likely they would defeat the whole aim.
