Think before you act on an email supposedly from the IRS

Red flags include requests for personally identifiable information, an abnormal sense of urgency or scare tactics, and/or attachments on an email.

If you see some of these emails help protect others and report it to the FTC at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/, the IRS at https://www.irs.gov/individuals/how-do-you-report-suspected-tax-fraud-activity  or forward the phishing email to phishing@irs.gov.
