Choosing a Tax Preparer

Make sure they are cyber-savvy and protect your information.

Questions to ask:

Do they have a secure portal for uploading your files OR use encrypted email methods to communicate?

  • Do not send your personal information via regular email.

Do they have controls at their accounting firm about who sees your personal information?

  • If not, you may want to rethink your choice of preparer.

Do they have a data security program and is it actively worked?

  • A data security program should include employee training, onsite and offsite data backups, routine software updates, knowing who has access to your data, and business class products (firewall, antivirus software, etc) to protect your data.
