Twitter Hackers Caught

by Chris Bonatti, IECA of Casper

We mentioned the summer’s high-profile Twitter hack in the previous articles about multi factor authentication.

Once you’ve protected all your accounts with 2FA, it might interest you to know that the perpetrators of the Twitter hack and the consequent Bitcoin scam were arrested and charged with 30-odd felonies. It’s clear the Justice Department is looking to make an example of somebody who poked the “big boys”. The “ringleader” of this “gang” was not some state-sponsored cybercrime kingpin, but rather a 17- year-old kid from Tampa Bay, Florida. Since he’s a minor, we’ll omit his name. The Justice Department also filed charges against two other suspects believed to have assisted with this hack. The first was identified as 19-year-old Mason Sheppard (known as “Chaewon”) living in Bognor Regis in the UK. The other was identified as 22-year-old Nima Fazeli (known as “Rolex”) of Orlando, Florida.
